The way you talk gives listeners an impression of you that can as revealing as a photo. It indicates whether you are confident, kind, cheerful, sensitive, bored, energetic…or even lazy. It may indicate your educational, financial, social status and background as well. Is the impression your voice gives others the one you wish to give?
1. Concentrate on correcting your enunciation of one troublesome word at a time and gradually you will acquire a new speech habit. One of the most common troublesome words is “you.” It is pronounced incorrectly as “Jew, chew, yuh, and ya to name a few. Enunciate clearly and distinctly: Don’t you, did you, won’t you, could you, would you, can’t you, told you, heard you, missed you.
2. Control your breathing and use your tongue and lips to form words distinctly. Speak more slowly to gain control.
3. Put some enthusiasm and vitality into your voice and use vocal variety (highs, lows, soft and loud) to sound more interesting.
4. Repeat what you wish to learn until it becomes a habit.
