Holding Cutlery Correctly

Holding Cutlery Correctly

Pick up your knife with your right hand and fork with your left hand. Place the knife and fork diagonally in the palms of your hands resting on your index fingers. Secure with your thumb and curl your fingers around the handles. Turn over the cutlery, resting index fingers about 1 inch down on the fork and knife handles so you can apply pressure if you need to. The handles of the cutlery are under your palms. If the handles are showing above your hands you are not holding your cutlery correctly!

Secure food with the fork tines down and put the knife blade above the fork to cut towards you in a smooth stroking motion. Don’t saw back and forth, use the leverage of your knife to apply pressure and stroke towards you
