Cell phone Etiquette

A recent survey found that 57% of people would rather visit the dentist than sit next to someone using a cell phone. However, it’s rude inconsiderate people that cause the problems, not cell phones. Keep these pointers in mind:

  • Think. Before making a call, consider whether it is an appropriate time and place. Avoid discussing private, emotional or confidential information in public.

  • Pay attention. Give 100% to the people you are with. Turn off your phone during meetings and quiet settings and let it go to voice mail.

  • Text off. Don’t text message while you are carrying on a face to face conversation with someone else.

  • Be upfront. When you’re in the company of others and expecting an important call, let them know beforehand then excuse yourself to take the call in private.
