GET THE PHONE!!!
Telephone calls can be annoying, especially when the calls aren’t for you or when they come during mealtime. Rules for answering a call vary from house to house and business to business, but there are general rules that apply to all telephone calls. It is important to be courteous on the phone. Here are a few basic rules to follow:
• A cheerful hello is always an acceptable greeting.
• Take a written message if the call is not for you: the caller’s name, telephone number, the time of the call and the message.
• If the call is not for you, go and get the person, don’t shout for the other party.
• Don’t give out unnecessary information. Don’t say things like, “He is in the bathroom,” Say, “I am sorry he’s not available.”
• Be sensitive to the length of your call. If your listener is not participating in the conversation except for the occasional ahs and ums, you’ve gone on too long. Say goodbye.
