Nosey Parker

“Is that watch a fake?” “What did you pay for that?” These obnoxious questions are the realm of the Nosey Parker, who for no good reason feels entitled to ask inappropriate questions. We all know a Nosey Parker, maybe he’s a co-worker, friend, or maybe…it’s you. People are sometimes just thoughtless, not necessarily ill intentioned or cruel, just curious. Because of media speculation about people, politicians and celebrities, we feel entitled to know everything about everyone.
What is the best way to respond inappropriate questions about your personal life? Say, "Why do you ask?" or "I am uncomfortable with your question."
Before you ask a nosey question, ask yourself, “Is this something I need to know and why?” Is this something you’d want someone to ask you? If it makes you uncomfortable, then bite your tongue.
